Parents in Gauteng must submit complete online applications for Grade 1 and 8 pupils by 12 September 2025. Incomplete submissions risk losing placement — no extensions will be granted.

Gauteng Education: Online Admissions Deadline Will Not Be Extended

The Gauteng Department of Education has warned parents that the deadline for online admissions for Grade 1 and Grade 8 pupils will not be extended. Parents have until midnight on 12 September to submit complete applications for the 2026 academic year.

According to officials, the online admissions system has received over 800,000 applications, but roughly 50,000 submissions are incomplete due to missing or uncertified documents. “If you don’t submit the required documents or complete your application, unfortunately, you will not be in a position to secure placement,” the Department emphasized.

The Department is urging parents to visit geadmissions.gov.za to ensure that all applications are properly submitted and certified. Officials also stressed that the focus will now shift to processing the applications received and placing students whose applications meet the requirements.

“This deadline ensures that the placement process can proceed smoothly and that parents who applied during the designated period are accommodated. We are not looking to extend the deadline,” the Department confirmed.

With only days left, parents are being reminded to act immediately to avoid any complications when schools reopen in January.
