Benoni, Ekurhuleni – 9 September 2025: The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) K9 Unit conducted a major school search at Belvedere School on Tuesday, uncovering more than 200 vapes along with other illicit items.
The operation, aimed at curbing unlawful activities on school premises, involved body searches of learners and thorough bag inspections using a trained sniffer dog. Officers were searching for dangerous weapons and illicit substances, ensuring that the school environment remains safe for students and staff.
During the search, authorities discovered:
“The safety of learners is our top priority,” said an EMPD spokesperson. “School searches like these will continue across the City of Ekurhuleni to prevent any harmful or illegal activities.”
The search is part of ongoing efforts by the EMPD to maintain safe and secure learning environments throughout the city.
