Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Policeman and Five Inmates in Limpopo

JOHANNESBURG – A police officer and five inmates tragically lost their lives in an accident while being transported to court in Naboomspruit, Limpopo.

According to Limpopo Provincial Police, the incident occurred while 11 inmates were being moved from Mokopane Police Station to appear in court. The remaining six inmates sustained injuries and were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba expressed his condolences, stating, “Seven inmates were injured and transported to hospital to receive medical attention. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families of both the officer and the inmates.”

The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that an investigation into the cause of the accident is underway. Authorities emphasized their commitment to ensuring the safety of both officers and inmates during transport.

This tragic incident highlights the risks faced by law enforcement personnel and the importance of stringent safety measures during prisoner transportation.
