The South African Police Service (SAPS) Eastern Cape has reported a major breakthrough in crime prevention following a series of high-density operations conducted across the province’s hot-spot areas. Between 15 – 21 September 2025, these operations led to the arrest of 1,228 suspects and the recovery of 16 unlicensed firearms, marking a significant stride in public safety efforts.

In collaboration with key stakeholders, SAPS executed a total of 91,784 actions, including 53 high-density operations conducted from Thursday to Sunday. Most suspects involved in serious crimes have been charged, and their cases have been enrolled in the magisterial courts across the Eastern Cape.

Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Thandiswa Kupiso praised the dedication of SAPS personnel and other stakeholders involved in the operations. “Our work is measurable, and the ground forces are doing exceptional work, with a special focus on hot-spot areas across all districts of the province. The ultimate measure of success is the safety and well-being of the people of the Eastern Cape, who are affected either directly or indirectly by criminal activities,” Maj Gen Kupiso added.
