SASSA confirms a R10 social grant increase for October 2025. Old Age Grants rise to R2320. See the new payment dates and all updated grant amounts here.

Pretoria, 25 September 2025 – The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has officially announced that all social grants will see an increase in the October 2025 payment cycle. This adjustment, initially outlined by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana in his February budget speech, will see most grant amounts rise by R10.

The increase is part of the government's two-phase adjustment for the 2025/26 financial year, with the first having taken effect in April 2025.

New Social Grant Amounts Effective October 2025

The following grants will be increased by R10, effective from the October payment cycle:

  • Old Age Grant: Increases from R2,310 to R2,320
  • Old Age Grant (75 years and older): Increases from R2,330 to R2,340
  • War Veterans Grant: Increases from R2,330 to R2,340
  • Disability Grant: Increases from R2,310 to R2,320
  • Care Dependency Grant: Increases from R2,310 to R2,320

October 2025 Payment Schedule

SASSA has also released the payment schedule for October to ensure a smooth process for millions of beneficiaries. Payments will be made on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, 02 October 2025: Old Age Grants
  • Thursday, 03 October 2025: Disability Grants
  • Monday, 06 October 2025: All Children's Grants (including the Child Support Grant)

Government's Commitment to the Vulnerable

SASSA CEO, Mr Themba Matlou, welcomed the increase, emphasising its role in providing a crucial safety net. "This reaffirms government's commitment to protecting the most vulnerable in society, easing financial burden and cushioning them against economic hardships," said Matlou.

He further reassured beneficiaries that the Agency is fully prepared for the October payments. “It is all systems go for the October payment cycle,” Matlou reiterated, confirming that all eligible beneficiaries will receive their grants without interruption.

What Beneficiaries Need to Know

Beneficiaries do not need to take any action to receive the increased amount. The adjustment will be automatically reflected in their payments on the specified dates.
