(JOHANNESBURG),19 September 2025 – The Gauteng government has issued a stern condemnation following the brutal assassination of Thamsanqa Moyo, the provincial Chairperson of the National Taxi Alliance (NTA), who was shot and killed while driving on the Soweto Highway on Thursday.
Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, expressed her "deepest shock and sadness" at the murder, labelling it a "senseless act of violence" that has robbed the industry of a pivotal leader and left a deep wound in the transport sector.

In a powerful statement, the MEC highlighted Moyo's significant role in fostering dialogue and stability within the often-volatile minibus taxi industry. She described his death as a severe setback to peace-building efforts.
“This is a devastating loss to the taxi industry and to Gauteng as a whole,” said Diale-Tlabela. “Moyo was a leader who played an important role in shaping dialogue within the industry and promoting stability. His untimely death is a blow to ongoing efforts to build peace, unity, and sustainable solutions.”
The MEC has urgently called on law enforcement agencies to spare no effort in bringing the perpetrators to justice. She framed the killing not just as a murder, but as an attack on the progress of the entire industry.
“We cannot allow criminal elements to derail progress in the taxi industry through acts of intimidation and violence,” she asserted. She further appealed for “calm, restraint, and cooperation” from all industry players as investigations proceed.
Reaffirming the provincial government's commitment, the MEC promised to continue working with all stakeholders to achieve a "safe, reliable, and peaceful transport system" for the people of Gauteng.
