Investigators connect dots between apparently unrelated killings as firearms evidence reveals professional hit squad operations

<The SAPS Political Killings Task Team has revealed a disturbing pattern of professional hits after connecting suspects in the DJ Sumbody and Armand Swart murders to at least 10 violent crimes. The team's forensic work showed the same weapons were used across multiple cases, suggesting an organized hitman network operating in Gauteng.

In court proceedings, prosecutors confirmed opposing bail for all suspects, citing the seriousness of the schedule 6 offenses. A fifth suspect - 23-year-old Nthabiseng Zama, daughter of one alleged hitman - faces money laundering charges related to the attempted murder of Tebogo Thobejane, another connected case.

Despite speculation about its disbandment, the specialized task team continues investigating cold cases, having secured over 130 convictions since 2018, including recent life sentences for killers of politician Sindiswa Magaqa and ANC councillor Zakhele Khuzwayo. "These arrests show our commitment to solving complex, interconnected crimes," said Mathe, praising collaboration between the task team and Organized Crime detectives.
