PRETORIA, 22 July 2025 - In a major breakthrough, South African police have arrested four suspects linked to the murders of popular musician DJ Sumbody (real name Oupa John Sefoka) and his two bodyguards, with shocking revelations that the same weapons and hitmen were involved in the killing of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart.

Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed the suspects face charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Ballistic tests connected an AK-47 and three pistols seized in Swart's April 2024 murder to DJ Sumbody's November 2022 killing, with the weapons now linked to at least 10 high-profile cases.
The arrests came after the Political Killings Task Team re-examined evidence, discovering critical ballistic matches. "Within three hours of Swart's murder, organized crime units arrested three suspects and seized the weapons," said Mathe. "When we conducted further ballistic tests in December 2024, they positively matched the DJ Sumbody case." A fourth suspect, Katlego Malefa, was arrested later that month.
