Police spokespersons have confirmed that at least three people are being held hostage — the constable’s grandmother, his nephew, and another young boy.
Residents in the area claim they heard gunshots from the property before law enforcement arrived on the scene.
The SAPS Hostage Negotiators, Special Task Force, and other tactical units have been deployed to the scene in an effort to defuse the standoff.
Negotiators have so far struggled to convince the constable to release his relatives, but police say every effort is being made to ensure a peaceful resolution.
