The US-South Africa Bilateral Relations Review Act of 2025 cleared a major hurdle today, passing the House Foreign Affairs Committee with a 34-16 vote. Authored by Republican Congressman Ronny Jackson (R-TX), the legislation could see ANC officials targeted for sanctions and mandates a comprehensive review of bilateral relations.
"South Africa has abandoned America," Jackson said after the vote. "This bill gives us tools to hold corrupt ANC leaders accountable for siding with communists and terrorists."

The legislation focuses on what Republicans describe as “dangerous alignments” between South Africa and other global actors:
